Eustis man arrested in 1981 killing of Ohio man

EUSTIS Fla. — A Eustis man has been extradited to Ohio after he was charged with aggravated murder in the 1981 death of Marcellus Reineke, who was killed in the city of St. Marys, Ohio.

Police in Lake County said they have been working the case for a file, and last month, a grand jury finally indicted Paul Hoover on aggravated murder charges, although Ohio police would not say how they got the sudden break.

Authorities said Hoover was working and living in Eustis under the radar, which is where he was arrested in connection with the crime.

Authorities and U.S. marshals eventually tracked Hoover, 52, to central Florida. He was booked into the Seminole County Jail and then extradited to Ohio, where he faced a judge Thursday.

According to an official release, Hoover appeared in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court and the judge set his bail at $2 million. He's currently being held in the Auglaize County Jail.

Neighbors who talked to Channel 9 said Hoover seemed like a normal guy.

Police in Ohio did say they are looking into other persons of interest associated with the killing of Reineke, who was 71 at the time of his death.
