Eustis woman sexually assaulted by burglar, police say

EUSTIS, Fla. — A woman was sexually assaulted by a burglar in her Eustis home, police said Friday.

According to Eustis police, the woman and a relative were in a home off of East Orange Avenue early Thursday morning when an unidentified male came in and began removing items.

Police said that while investigators were processing the crime scene, a woman told them that she was sexually assaulted during the burglary.

According to police, the woman's relative was sleeping in another room when the attack happened.

Neighbors, who told Channel 9's Jeff Deal that the victim was an elderly woman, were surprised by reports of violence in their area.

"It really surprises me. This area right here, I never would have thought anything like that would happen," neighbor Betty Montes said.

Police said the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. Investigators said she was able to give only a partial description of the alleged attacker.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call them.
