Ex-Brevard teacher accused of having sex with student gets bond reduced

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Brevard County judge lowered the bond for a former teacher accused of having a three-year sexual relationship with a student.

Investigators said 56-year-old Dennis Turner started the affair with the student while he was a drama teacher at Edgewood Junior-Senior High School.

Turner's bond was initially set at more than $4 million, but a judge reduced it to $313,000 on Wednesday.

The victim, who was 15 when the alleged relationship began happening, said incidents with Turner occasionally happened during school hours and on school property, deputies said.

Investigators believe the conduct happened until the victim graduated from the school.

The investigation began at the end of the school year after the school received information from concerned parents.

Turner resigned from his position at Edgewood before the end of the school year.

Turner was charged with 126 counts of sexual battery of a person under 18 years of age while in custodial authority.
