Plea hearing continued for Ex-Melbourne cop fired over prostitution allegations

MELBOURNE, Fla. — A plea hearing has been continued for  aformer Melbourne police officer accused of soliciting prostitutes in his patrol car last year.

In June, a woman arrested and charged in connection with a prostitution sting said Officer Jose Otero was one of her customers.

The woman even claimed she and Otero, 42, had sex in his police cruiser.

Investigators said the proof is all on tape. As part of the department's internal investigation, police set up cameras that caught Otero at least undressing after picking up women in his car.

Investigators said the video is proof that Otero abused his power to break the law.

Video from Otero's car shows Otero pulling into a secluded lot, and then, with part of his uniform missing, he disappeared behind the car with a woman.

Police released dozens of clips as part of the case against the married policeman.

Otero was fired last summer after being accused of six counts of prostitution-related charges.

The videos that were released do not show any sex acts or an exchange of money.
