Family frustrated: Still no arrests in 3-year-old's death

OVIEDO, Fla. — It's been a little more than a month since a 3-year-old Oviedo boy was found dead inside the same home he shared with his mom, her cousin and her boyfriend.

"He was a sweet baby. He was very loving and very sweet. He really was,” said the boy's grandmother, Sybonne Schelling

A month has passed since Kameron "Brody" Childs was found not breathing inside the Oviedo apartment. Schelling said Friday that with each passing day, the pain grows not knowing the truth about what really happened to him.

"We are being as patient as we can, because we want to make sure the right person, or the right persons go to jail," Schelling said to Channel 9's Jeff Levkulich.

Oviedo police said they continue to investigate the boy’s death as a homicide.

"I do not know what the hold-up is. I think maybe that they are waiting for some other things to come back from the autopsy, I am not really sure though,” Schelling said.

No arrests have been made and police said the boy’s mom, her boyfriend and the mother’s cousin have not cooperated with the investigation.

"It's very painful to know that there are people out there that hurt a child,” Schelling said.

Schelling said she has a meeting set up with the state attorney's office in a couple of weeks to discuss the case.
