FAMU Band director placed on administrative leave

ORLANDO, Fla.,None — FAMU Band director Dr. Julian White has been placed on administrative leave and issued a notice of intent to dismiss, WFTV learned on Wednesday.

WFTV also found out that someone on the same bus where Robert Champion collapsed and died called 911 on the way to the Rosen Plaza Hotel and asked for an ambulance.

Champion died shortly after the marching band's performance at the Florida Classic football game.

Sheriff Jerry Demings confirmed that hazing was involved in the events leading up to Champion's death and felony charges could be filed.

The FAMU president announced that a former state senator, newspaper editor, attorney and administrator from Florida State University will help make up the new task force investigating allegations of hazing.
