Windermere Pastor injured, wife killed in head-on crash

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate a crash that seriously injured a Windermere Pastor and killed his wife.

According to FHP investigators Mark Matheson and his wife Carla Matheson were traveling eastbound on Overstreet Rd. Friday evening when a van driven by 17 year-old Cody Robinson-Banks crossed over from the westbound lanes and struck Matheson's car head on.

Troopers say the impact of the crash caused the Matheson's Honda to flip onto its roof trapping the couple inside.

Robinson-Banks and a passenger in the Toyota were not injured.

Members of the First Baptist Church Windermere where Mark Matheson was a pastor say Carla's death is a tragedy not just for the church, but the whole community.

"Lots of prayer lots of lifting him up lots of surrounding the kids and the kids and whoever needs it," said Nancy Myers, a friend of Matheson.

Mark Matheson remains at Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

FHP says charges are pending.
