Father killed, son injured in Deltona hit-and-run crash on I-4

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — An Ormond Beach man was killed in a hit and run crash in DeLand Saturday night.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say 47-year-old Thomas Reece was driving eastbound on Interstate 4 near Harley Road around 10:30 p.m., directly in front of the unknown driver.

Troopers say the other vehicle lost control while changing from the center lane to the left lane and sideswiped Reece’s vehicle on the driver’s side.

Reece was forced off the road and down a ditch and was ejected as his vehicle also overturned.

He died on scene.

A nine-year-old boy who was a passenger in Reece’s vehicle was seriously injured and flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital.

Witnesses described the second vehicle as a white older model Chevrolet Malibu with a headlight that was out before the crash.

They also told troopers that the front quarter panel on the passenger side may have been red while the rest of the car was white.

FHP is asking anyone with information that may help them locate the second driver to call them at 407-737-2213.
