Father, son, man named 'Shorty' arrested in plot to kill mother

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — An Indian River County man is accused of hatching an elaborate plan to kill his mother, and deputies said he wanted his son and two others to help him.

Deputies said one of the men who was asked to help told a deputy about the plan, which was supposed to play out Thursday.

Suraj Narine, 44, and his son Christopher Narine, 20, were arrested.

“This plot ironically started with one of our road patrol deputies. Someone had flagged him down that he had been solicited by a son and a father to murder their grandmother and their mother, respectively,” Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said.

Deputies said the plot to kill the diabetic mother included injecting her "with insulin to kill her" to make it look like a "natural death" and then "driving her car with her body in it to the canal" close to where she works.

“The plot also included another suspect who is in our custody to take the body and place it in a canal with the hopes the insulin would go away from her system prior to the autopsy,” Loar said.

A third person, Michiel Hamons, nicknamed "Shorty" was also arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder. He was promised $5,000 if he pulled off the killing, deputies said.

According to an arrest affidavit, the man who told deputies about the plot went to a McDonald's Tuesday in Vero Beach wearing an audio and video recording device and met the three men.

According to documents, Suraj Narine said he might need to postpone the killing because his "brother will be coming into town." But Suraj Narine solidified the "plan of injecting his mother, Magdalene, with insulin to kill her."

Deputies said greed was the motive. The two lived in her home and wanted her death benefits, deputies
said.
