Devices found at Titusville HS turn out to be school project left behind, police say

The devices that were found at Titusville High School Thursday turned out to be a project that was unintentionally left on campus by a member of the school’s robotics team, according to officials.
“While highly concerning, there was no criminal intent in this incident,” officials said in a news release.

The devices were handmade “makeshift missiles” that were created to shoot out of an air cannon, investigators said.
According to the release, “The fact that the devices were packed with small bolts for weight, added to the concern of them being an actual device when initially X-rayed.“

The incident caused Titusville High School to shut down Thursday and caused great concern that someone had intentionally left a hoax bomb at the school.
"We are disappointed by the tremendous use of resources, but certainly thankful that there was no ill intent in this incident,” said Titusville Detective Sgt. Bill Amos.
School administration officials said they will be handling the issue.
Officials with Brevard County Public Schools said since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland last month, Brevard County schools have dealt with threats on some level almost every day.
“Honestly, this has happened so many times, even if it was real, we’re completely unfazed by it,” said student Jamie Jones.
