FDLE investigated Orlando police officer accused of smuggling drugs from Columbia

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando police officer was under criminal investigation after a business partner accused him of bringing drugs from Columbia to the U.S., according to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement report.

Officer Heath Williams has been relieved of duty during the criminal investigation.

According to the monthslong FDLE investigation, Williams was in business with a man named Gregory Meister, who investigators say bought and sold drugs such as ecstasy.

Meister said that he and Williams were in business together for years as part of liquidation company.

The problem is that investigators suspected the other business may have been smuggling drugs.

According to court records, Meister was charged with multiple drug counts after an FDLE investigation.

But during questioning, the report says, Meister told investigators that Williams would bring pills back from Columbia every 6 months.

FDLE tried for months to get to the bottom of the allegations, but seemed to be lacking proof.

When Williams was stopped at the airport on two different occasions, no drugs were found in his luggage.

Williams even agreed to interview with FDLE agents without an attorney.

He said he and Meister did have a business together, but that he was never involved in illegal narcotics.

He said he thought what Meister was involved in was legitimate, and the only things he ever brought home from Columbia were herbal supplements.

FDLE sent its finding to the state and the state declined to prosecute.

Williams still faces an internal investigation at the Orlando Police Department that could mean the end of his career.

Meister has yet to be arrested despite a warrant having been out for more than a year.
