FDLE investigates Dixie Co. sheriff's use of force

OCALA, Fla. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the death of a teenager killed after the stolen truck he was in was forced off the road by Dixie County's sheriff.

Authorities say the 17-year-old David Newmeyer had had numerous run-ins with local law enforcement before Wednesday's crash.

Newmeyer died after police say he stole a truck from outside an Ocala gym and led authorities on a perilous high-speed chase.

Dixie County Sheriff Dewey Hatcher forced the truck of U.S. 19 near Cross City, which also injured two other teenagers riding inside.

The Ocala Star-Banner (http://bit.ly/1mNFOcz) reports that FDLE is reviewing Hatcher's use of force and will turn the case over to the State Attorney's Office when the review is finished.
