Felon mistakenly released from jail in Brevard

MELBOURNE, Fla. — A felon was mistakenly released from the Brevard County Jail when he should have been held until he saw a judge, said authorities.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey told Florida Today that 35-year-old Lamanceo Dorsey was arrested April 30 on burglary and grand theft charges.

Dorsey was mistakenly allowed to post the $7,000 bail that same day without appearing before a judge.

Ivey said Dorsey should have been held without bail because he was on probation for a heroin conviction, according to rules established in an administrative order set by the local court. But jail staff released him for the most recent arrest, thinking it superseded the administrative order.

Ivey said officials are waiting for Dorsey's probation officer to decide whether he should be arrested again for violating probation.
