WEST COCOA, Fla. — A Merritt Island man is in the hospital after crashing into a Brevard County fire station Monday evening, firefighters said.
No firefighters were injured when the black 2003 Chevy SUV crashed into Fire Station 44 on West King Street in West Cocoa around 8 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The same could not be said for the 41-year-old SUV driver, Ernest Jones, who was airlifted as a trauma alert to Holmes Regional Medical Center, troopers said.
Troopers said Jones was traveling east on King Street when he suffered a medical episode and lost control of his SUV, crashing into the fire station.
