FHP: Man arrested in 2015 Turnpike crash that killed family of 3 in Lake County

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A 26-year-old man wanted in connection with a 2015 triple-fatal crash on Florida's Turnpike in Lake County was arrested Tuesday in Palm Beach County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

James Geoffrey Dameron was arrested after troopers, with the help of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office intelligence unit, were able to locate him driving on the Florida Turnpike in a white Mercedes SUV with his half brother.

Dameron was wanted in connection with a Sept. 6, 2015, crash, troopers said.

He is accused of driving south on the roadway at a high rate of speed and rear-ending a 2001 Nissan Maxima.

The Maxima caught fire and Thomas Garza, 23, Lillian Luna, 20, and Brianna Garza, 1, of Moultrie, Georgia, were killed, FHP said.

Dameron was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and driving on a suspended license.

When he was arrested Tuesday, he had an ankle monitor wrapped in copper and tin foil on his left leg, troopers said.

Drugs were also located in the vehicle, FHP said.
