Channel 9 speaks with wife of man killed in fatal hit-and-run near UCF's Rosen campus

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 39-year-old Orlando man died late Saturday after being struck by three vehicles near the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Rasheed Wiggins was standing in a median near Universal Boulevard and Destination Parkway shortly after 11:30 p.m. when he was struck by a newer white passenger vehicle that was turning onto the highway from a side street, FHP Sgt. Kim Montes said.

Wiggins was flung into the northbound lanes of Universal Boulevard where he was run over by an older white passenger vehicle driven by a woman, Montes said.

The drivers of both white vehicles left the crash scene, Montes said.

Kimberly Wiggins, the victim's wife, is urging the two drivers to come forward.

"In that second, those few seconds, those drivers made such a reckless decision and (a) stupid and insensitive decision. They took all of that away. They took away my one," Kimberly Wiggins said.

Wiggins was run over again by Fito Pierre, a 47-year-old Town & Country Transportation taxi cab driver, who didn’t see Wiggins lying in the road and who stopped to help, Montes said.

Wiggins, who lived in a nearby apartment, was pronounced dead at the scene. He worked for Darden Restaurants as a social media manager.

"Those drivers on Saturday night took an amazing life. He meant so much to so many people," Kimberly Wiggins said.

Wiggins said she met her husband at Duke and they would have been married five years in June.

Kimberly Wiggins said he had left their apartment to go across the street to a Walgreens when he was hit. Officials said she went outside and saw the scene after he husband did not return home.

“Everyone at Darden is deeply saddened by this senseless tragedy,” Darden spokesman Rich Jeffers said. “Rasheed was a valued team member who will be missed by all, especially those who worked closest with him.”

Wiggins had worked for the company for more than three years.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Kimberly, and all of his family and friends during this difficult time,” Jeffers said.

Anyone with information about the vehicles that left the crash scene is asked to call FHP at 407-737-2213 or Crimeline at 407-423-8477.
