Fire damages vacant home in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A vacant home in Daytona Beach was heavily damaged in a fire Saturday morning, according to officials.

Fire crews responded to the home on the 300 block of Kingston Avenue around 8:00 a.m.

Once on scene, heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the back of the house.

Firefighters were able to go into the front of the house to fight the fire, officials said. It was later discovered that the fire originated in a wood structure that was an addition to the home.

The home is vacant, according to firefighters. Investigators believe transients may have started a fire overnight to keep warm and left it burning. No one was injured in the fire.

Officials said the home sustained roughly $30,000 in damage.
