‘Flip Flop Bandit' accused of hitting banks in Florida, 7 other states, indicted

SAVANNAH, Ga. — A 46-year-old Virginia man accused of going on an armed bank robbery spree in eight states has been indicted in federal court.

Leonard Riddle was nicknamed the “Flip Flop Bandit” by the FBI because the 6 foot, 2 inch tall man wore flip flops during all of the alleged robberies.

Riddle would go into a bank armed with a BB gun or fake explosive device and demand cash, investigators said.

He was finally caught on July 29 when he was arrested by police Georgia after a high-speed chase through the city of Pooler.

Riddle has pleaded not guilty in the case.
