Florida man gets life sentence for murdering 6-week-old daughter

OCALA, Fla. — A north Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his infant daughter.

Jeremy Murray, 32, was sentenced Thursday after jurors convicted him of aggravated child abuse and felony murder.

Authorities said Murray gave conflicting versions of what happened to his 6-week-old daughter, who was taken to the hospital on Jan. 30, 2013, with bruising on her forehead.

Authorities say the girl, Ember Murray, was unresponsive when she arrived at the hospital.

A medical examiner later determined that she died from blunt head trauma.

Murray told detectives that he had tripped and crashed through a bassinet with the girl in his arms.

Medical experts testified that the girl's injuries would have been caused by someone stomping on her head or punching her repeatedly.

After being taken to two different hospitals, Ember Murray was taken off life support and died.
