Florida toddler falls from apartment window; airlifted to hospital

BRADENTON, Fla. — A toddler was airlifted to the hospital after falling from a second-story apartment window in Bradenton, officials said.

News outlets report Manatee County sheriff's deputies say the incident happened Tuesday at the Royal Palm Terrace Apartments.

Sheriff's office spokesman Dave Bristow says the child's mother was cleaning her home and had the windows open to air the residence out.

Bristow says she noticed the almost 2-year-old missing after hearing her 4-year-old son say something about not going out the window. The mother ran downstairs, where she discovered the boy on the pavement.

Manatee County EMS District Chief Allison Skinner says the boy was alert and conscious and taken to the hospital. Bristow says the incident appears to be an accident.

Officials say the distance of the fall was about 15 feet.
