Former OPD chief ahead in congressional race

Val Demings

New numbers show former Orlando police Chief Val Demings is performing well in the race for Florida’s 10th Congressional District.

Demings has a 20-point lead in a new poll commissioned by her campaign, but conducted by a third party.

Trailing in second is Sen. Geraldine Thompson and in third place Bob Poe, a longtime Democratic fundraiser.

Demings ran for office in 2012 and lost to Republican Daniel Webster.

In 2014, she dropped out of the race for Orange County mayor before the election.
