Ex-mentor with Big Brothers arrested in child porn sting

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — An Osceola County man arrested on charges of possession of child pornography is out of jail on bond.

Robert Kevin Britt, 38, was arrested Tuesday as part of an Internet sex sting in Polk County. Investigators identified Britt as a suspect they said was trafficking or distributing child pornography images.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office was contacted and helped with the arrest after learning Britt lived in the county with his mother. Detectives obtained a search warrant for his home and removed several computers and electronic devices that were in Britt's bedroom, authorities said.

Detectives said they also found a hidden black hard drive that was filled with child porn.

“I'm totally at a loss for words. My kids walk by there every day,” said neighbor Mark Higgin.

During the course of the investigation, detectives said they found out Britt formerly worked for the Pensacola Police Department as a school resource officer. They said he was also affiliated with the Explorer Program and worked as a patrol officer, and was even a volunteer for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Florida.

Authorities said they don't believe Britt victimized a young boy he mentored or children he came in contact with.

Authorities said Britt confessed to the crime and faces at least 10 counts of possession of child porn, a third-degree felony.
