Frustrated Seminole County teachers refuse to work outside school day

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Some Seminole County teachers are refusing to work outside the school day to express their frustrations with contract negotiations.

Teachers at Crystal Lake Elementary school began what they called “working to the contract” on Monday, meaning they will only work their contracted hours.

The union has been in contract negotiations with the district for months, but neither side has settled on teacher raises.

Union leaders said by working to the contract, teachers won’t be putting in up to 20 hours off the clock each week.

They are wearing red and asking students to wear red to show support.
