Girl, 10, bitten by shark in Cocoa Beach returns home

COCOA BEACH, Fla. — A child was bitten by a shark in Brevard County, officials said.

Karma Fordham, 10, was in knee-deep water when the shark bit her on her right leg just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Cocoa Beach near Lori Wilson Park.

She was transported to a Cape Canaveral hospital, where she’s being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ocean Rescue closed the beach after the attack, but it has since reopened.

A swimmer told WFTV he was very close to the spot where the girl was bitten.

"I look over and I see four puncture wounds and everybody was saying, 'Shark,'" said Jimmy Acevdeo. "I was right next to her."

Fordham was on vacation with her mother from Georgia.

She has since been released from the hospital and returned home.
