BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - Under Governor Rick Scott, tens of millions of dollars have flowed into Florida's ports.
Friday, Scott was at Port Canaveral to talk about how that has translated into jobs.
The port's CEO said without the state's help many of the projects underway could have been delayed for years.
A state grant is paying for two-thirds of the channel, and without that money, larger ships would have passed the port by.
Scott and Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera were at Port Canaveral to talk about investment.
The port is $50 million in state grants to leverage a $582 million program that includes channel widening, a new cruise terminal and cargo investments.
Scott is expected to return to the port in a couple of weeks to talk about Project Pelican, which is the code name for an international company making a $40 million capital in the port's cargo area.
