Gunman may have targeted victims set to testify in previous home invasion

OCOEE, Fla. — WFTV found out more information about what may have led a gunmen to target an Ocoee home and shoot three people inside.

Monday's attack was the second at the house on Bernadino Drive. WFTV learned the first attack may have been why it was hit again.

The victims were set to testify in that earlier case.

New documents WFTV tracked down show two of the three people shot were scheduled to testify in a trial this week.

Investigators with the Ocoee Police Department are trying to determine if the suspect in that trial tried to kill his victims.

Remington and Brienna Campos survived, but Alex Zalvidar died.

New documents WFTV obtained show Zalvidar and Brienna Campos were on a witness list and scheduled to testify about a home invasion at the same home back in May. They were the victims then, too.

Investigators said Bessman Okafor and Nolan Bernard terrorized the two and robbed them at gunpoint inside the home.

More records show Bernard has been in the Orange County Jail since May, but Okafor was just re-arrested Monday night on charges that he violated the conditions of his release.

He was placed on home confinement and only allowed to leave home for school.

Records from his GPS monitoring device show that he left home twice Monday morning. He left just after 2:30 a.m., returning about an hour later and he left again at 4:40 a.m., returning at 5:46 a.m.

That home invasion at the home in Ocoee that wounded Remington and Brienna Campos and left Zalvidar dead was around 5:15.

Okafor was staying at a home with his sister in Pine Hills, which is about 15 minutes away from the home in Ocoee.
