Gunman sought after Daytona Beach woman's home, car shot up

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police are investigating after a woman said someone sprayed a barrage of bullets Wednesday into her home on Thunderbird Drive.

Clara Jones, 67, told police that she was home with her daughter, her 12-year-old grandchild and a friend when the gunfire started.

A police report said Jones was in her living room when she heard several gunshots, the sound of glass breaking and a vehicle speeding away.

Police said four rounds struck the home, and two rounds hit vehicles in the front yard.

“It was a powerful weapon. It wasn’t a 22 or something like that,” said nearby resident Larry Porter.

Some bullets were stuck in the walls, but shell casings were found in the kitchen and the hallway, police said.

Jones said she’s lives in the home for more than 20 years without any problems, but said someone did vandalize her grandson Daron Williams’ car recently.

She said the 22-year-old lives with her but was not home at the time of the shooting.

The home’s security camera does not work and so far, no one has come forward with any description of a car.

Police are looking into the vandalism and shooting to see if they may be related.

No injuries were reported.
