Hazmat situation at Lakeland printing company contained

LAKELAND, Fla. — The Lakeland Fire Department responded to a hazardous materials situation at a printing company Sunday.

Officials said about 7 a.m. crews were called to the GTECH after smoke was seen coming out of the building.

The smoke was caused by a chemical reaction in a vessel used at the facility to store chemicals.

The chemical reaction has been contained to one area, officials said.

Hazmat crews from Polk County Fire Rescue, along with chemist professionals, joined the Lakeland Fire Department to handle the situation.

No one was injured and everyone in the area was evacuated.

Officials said by 11 a.m. the vessel was iced down to contain the reaction.
