High school teacher accused of sex assault on student

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County math teacher was arrested on charges of sexual assault on a minor, authorities said Thursday.

Scott Kimbrough, 39, of Winter Park, was arrested Wednesday night on three counts of sexual assault on a minor, said the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Lyman High School officials said they contacted law enforcement after they learned of possible inappropriate activity between Kimbrough and a 17-year-old female student.

The sexual abuse is believed to have occurred at least three times over the past three months at Kimbrough's Winter Park home, deputies said.

Deputies said the information was confirmed by the victim during an interview by investigators.

The student was not in any of Kimbrough's classes, deputies said.

Kimbrough has been with the school district for 14 years.

Student Michael Freeman said Kimbrough just looked like a happy teacher who had a good relationship with students.

"I didn't think it was that kind of relationship with his students," Freeman said.

Students said it's very possible this could have happened because Kimbrough is in charge of an after-school anime club that would often meet off-campus.

WFTV reporter Karla Ray stopped by Kimbrough's home Thursday and talked to a man claiming to be his brother.

"They said he had sex with a 17-year-old here three times," said Ray.

"Not that I know of; not while I've been here," said the man.

Kimbrough was booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility on $10,200 bail, but he posted bail early Wednesday morning and is no longer in custody, authorities said.

He is currently suspended with pay until a May 21 board meeting, where the board will decide what to do.

Kimbrough can't be fired until the board meeting.

Investigators said they are looking into the possibility of additional victims and are asking that anyone with information call the Seminole County Sheriff's Office at 407-665-6650.
