Family thankful to be unhurt after car slams into house

Moments after Joe Kinsey’s daughter and granddaughter walked out of a room in their Rio Grande Avenue home, a car smashed through the wall.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The house was so damaged it was later deemed unsafe to live in, but everyone walked away uninjured, so that’s all that matters, Kinsey said.

“No one was hurt through it all, that’s the main thing about it,” he said.

Details about the 27-year-old behind the wheel when the car hit the house have not been released, but at least one person was detained by police at the scene.

Investigators said the car is believed to be connected to a hit-and-run crash earlier in the day.

The hit-and-run incident happened in Orlando city limits near Interstate 4 and Colonial Drive, but the crash happened in Orange County, the Orlando Police Department said.

Four people were in the home when it was hit.

Kinsey said his family has been living in the Rio Grande Drive home for 10 years.

The family’s pastor at Friendship Missionary Baptist was on hand Wednesday night, making sure the family of seven has a place to sleep.

“The car was damaged, home was damaged, no one else was damaged, so hopefully, he (the suspect) can learn a lesson from this,” said Pastor David Jones.
