Homeowner arrested after explosion at Orange County home

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A homeowner was arrested following an explosion at his home that caused extensive damage and prompted neighborhood evacuations Saturday night, authorities said.

The explosion happened around 9 p.m. at the man's home on Alfred Drive near Eatonville in Orange County.

Deputies said 48-year-old William Denmark, the homeowner, was apparently using explosive materials to make homemade fireworks in his garage. Something apparently went wrong and caused a large explosion, according to investigators.

Authorities evacuated several surrounding homes in the neighborhood as a precaution. Residents were kept out of their homes for several hours after the incident.

The explosion blew out the windows and caused extensive damage to Denmark's home. Deputies said the home required emergency stabilization by fire rescue crews.

Explosive making materials and explosives were found during a search of the home, according to authorities. Denmark was arrested and charged with possession or discharge of destructive device.

He has since bonded out of jail and was seen cleaning up the mess at his home Sunday morning.
