Homeowners on Lake Conway worried about hunting in their backyard

BELLE ISLE, Fla. — Up until this past weekend, homeowners on Lake Conway in Orange County said the loudest thing they've heard in the area are the Fourth of July fireworks.

Over the weekend, they said hunters were on the lake that's surrounded by homes.

"Never in my life did I dream we had a hunting zone near my home," resident Rick Wilson said.

Neighbors called the police after hearing gunshots in their backyard on Friday and Sunday.

Three Lake County hunters were found shooting ducks on the lake, according to the police report.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said Sunday was the last day of duck hunting season and that it's "legal to hunt in the Belle Isle/Lake Conway area."

The police report showed the hunters had the proper paperwork required to hunt.

One of the hunters told Channel 9 that they're cautious of the homes and eat the birds they shoot.

Neighbors called it dangerous and disrespectful.

"I think out of common courtesy, you ought to understand. You shouldn't be blasting near our homes," Wilson said.

Neighbors said they're worried about upcoming hunting seasons in February and September.
