I-4 Maitland Boulevard onramp open for business

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — After a weekend closure that frustrated drivers and residents who were forced to deal with detoured traffic, the new westbound Interstate 4 onramp at Maitland Boulevard opened on Monday morning.

The closure started Friday night and caused major traffic delays for the 74,000 drivers who use the onramp every day.

Traffic was rerouted onto Sandspur, Wymore and Hope roads, which already handle a lot of traffic from the thousands of people who live along the residential streets.

The extra traffic was a problem, but resident John Scott understood that officials had to do something while work on the new ramp was completed.

“I suppose they’ve got to keep traffic flowing while this thing is under construction,” he said.

The new onramp, part of the I-4 Ultimate project, was constructed to relieve congestion and give drivers coming from the direction of the RDV Sportsplex an easier way to get onto the highway.
