Christopher Greer, 49, was shot and killed during an incident with Indialantic police and Brevard deputies Sunday evening, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Dept.
Investigators said a resident reported that Greer had assaulted family members with a knife.
When deputies arrived, they said Greer confronted them with a knife, according to investigators.
Investigators said deputies fired their weapons, striking and killing Greer.
The deputies involved in the incident, Corporal Jim Haman and Deputy Diomedis Canela, are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. This is a common practice anytime a deputy is involved in a line-of-duty shooting, investigators said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent investigation regarding the use of deadly force, deputies said.
