POLK COUNTY, Fla.,None - Authorities say an inmate collapsed and died while waiting in line for lunch at a central Florida jail.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office says 50-year-old Robert Joseph Lorenz began slumping over around noon Sunday. He was caught by a corrections officer and taken to the Polk County Jail infirmary. A sheriff's report says Lorenz was unresponsive when he was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lorenz has been arrested several times and was jailed for violating his probation on a petty theft charge.
According to a sheriff's office report, Lorenz did not notify jail officials of any pre-existing conditions when he was booked.
