Escaped inmate, girlfriend and child found safe in Kentucky

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Flagler County father said he can’t wait for his daughter and grandson to come home after they were found with an escaped inmate more than 800 miles away.

U.S. Marshals in Flemingsburg Kentucky arrested Gary Bullock Jr. and his girlfriend, Natasha Quigley Friday afternoon.

Bullock escaped from a work-release program in Daytona Beach Shores on Jan. 22.

Investigators said Quigley, who is his girlfriend, drove the getaway car with her 3-year-old son Xander Quigley, inside the vehicle.

Authorities said the child is in protective custody until arrangements are made to place him in the care of family.

All three were found safe, authorities said.

“I’ve had disappointments my whole life. Nothing like this. Nothing this scary,” said Xander’s grandfather, Frank Carr.

Carr said the pain of not knowing if his only child was OK was compounded by the fact that his grandson was missing.

“It’s a relief that she’s safe,” he said. “It’s a relief knowing we have got our grandson back, knowing that everyone is safe and no one got hurt.”

Carr said he feared the danger his daughter and grandson could face in the company of an armed fugitive.

“I had a lot of scenarios in my mind of how this could end,” Carr said.

U.S. Marshals said the couple surrendered peacefully.

Authorities said Bullock faces charges of escape, destruction of an electronic monitor and criminal mischief. Quigley faces a charge of aiding escape.

Additional charges are anticipated.
