Investigators: Man arrested after jumping in Seminole County lake to escape deputies

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A man who was wanted by Orange County deputies and tried to escape by jumping in a lake has been captured, investigators said.

Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office felony squad were following Kevin Lorenzo Mackall, 30, who was wanted on a warrant around 8 a.m. Friday. Deputies said his warrant involved a drug charge.

Deputies said Mackall became aware that he was being followed, parked his car at a gas station and jumped into the lake off of Bear Lake and State Road 436 in Apopka.

He was found and taken into custody with the help of Seminole County Sheriff deputies and officers with the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

A woman told Channel 9's Jeff Levkulich that she was in the car when Mackall ran from deputies. Jennifer, who didn't want to give her last name, said Mackall is her neighbor's boyfriend who offered to give her a ride.

"I was thinking I was just going to Walmart. I didn't think it was going to turn into a big old ordeal, and it ended up being a chase for my life," Jennifer said. "I tried to jump out of the truck. They saw that I tried to open it, but I'm not going to go while it's 70 miles an hour, you know. I'm not going to jump out of the car."

Deputies said the truck Mackall was in was stolen.
