Isleworth millionaire accused of killing wife gets GPS monitor, hopes to attend daughter's wedding

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange county millionaire once convicted of killing his wife will not be allowed to attend his daughter’s wedding out of state for a week, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Bob Ward has been out on a $1 million bail since August while he awaits a new murder trial. Ward had asked the judge if he could travel to Georgia Nov. 7 to witness his daughter get married. The judge denied the request and voiced concerns that Ward was not on a GPS monitor.

Ward's attorney said he was, "disappointed."

Later Tuesday, Ward's attorneys said in court filings that Ward was able to get a GPS monitor through the Florida GPS Monitoring company.

The judge has not yet made a ruling in the filing.

Ward was found guilty in 2011 in the 2009 shooting death of his wife, Diane Ward, at the couple's mansion in Orange County's Isleworth neighborhood. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

In February, a Florida appeals court overturned the second-degree murder conviction. The court found that Ward's former defense team made mistakes during the trial, including submitting inadmissible evidence.

Ward must stay in Orange County unless he has the court's approval. He also must check in with his probation officer every week.

The judge said she would reconsider her decision if Ward's attorney's find a way to have him monitored while in Georgia.

Ward’s trial has been set for Feb. 5, 2018.
