Job fair seeking to fill 900 positions at new Volusia County outlet mall

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In less than two months, a new outlet mall will open in Volusia County, and to fill the 900 positions that will be needed, a job fair was being held in Daytona Beach Wednesday.

"I love fashion. So when I found out the outlets were going to be opening, I was very excited about that," Niah Cassanova said.

The huge increase in jobs is a boost for the local economy, Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce spokesman Jim Cameron said.

“We just have to keep striving and bring that many more good-paying jobs to this area,” he said.

Daytona Beach resident Bob Henderson says he loves living in the city, but finding a job can be a tough thing to do.

“It’s a fun place, but it also must have stabilizing jobs that will put people to work for the people that live here and for the people that are coming to the area,” he said. “That’s the only way you are going to build up the area.”

Construction of the outlet mall is expected to bring in 400 jobs.

The Tanger Factory Outlet Centers job fair will take place in Daytona Beach from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ocean Center, 101 N. Atlantic Ave.

Full- and part-time positions are available at the outlet mall, which will be home to numerous retail stores, including Nike, J. Crew, Banana Republic, American Eagle, Ralph Lauren, and more.

Applicants were encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resumes. Click here for more information.

Volusia County is in need of jobs. Statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau showed 17.7 percent of the people in the county live in poverty and the average income is $23,844 a year.

Outlet officials could not answer our questions about pay or how many of the positions are full-time. They said it varied depending on the employer.
