Judge denies 'stand your ground' in man's death

LAKELAND, Fla. — A Florida judge has rejected a woman's "stand your ground" claim in the shooting death of her husband.

Circuit Judge Catherine Combee concluded in an order written earlier in January that the self-defense claim by 57-year-old Sheree Peters is "not credible."

The Ledger of Lakeland reports Peters is accused of manslaughter in the November 2012 death of her 62-year-old husband James Dennis Peters. She claims he threatened and attacked her before the shooting.

The judge noted inconsistencies in the various versions of Peters' accounts of the shooting.

Peters didn't report the death and left his body in the hallway of their home until relatives discovered it two weeks later.

Combee wrote that Peters didn't report the death because she was in shock and afraid she'd go to jail.
