Lake alert issued for Lake Olive

ORLANDO, Fla. — The City of Orlando has issued a lake alert for Lake Olive.

After being made aware of an unusual appearance in Lake Olive, the City collected samples of the lake water that tested positive for microsystin and anatoxins at levels that were deemed unsafe.

According to the City of Orlando, these conditions are caused by algae blooms that could be a result of several factors, including warmer water and excessive nutrients that can come from a combination of fertilizers, septic tanks, yard waste and pet waste.

They will continue routine testing of the lake water until it returns to acceptable state standards.

The Lake alert will remain in place until that time.

The City of Orlando is advising everyone to refrain from swimming, recreating and irrigating in/from Lake Olive until further notice.

They also ask that residents be aware of a “musty” or other unpleasant odor that may occur as the algae dies.
