Lake Co. sheriff's lieutenant, mother accused of battery

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lake County Sheriff's Office lieutenant is under investigation after accusations of battery, according to sheriff's reports.

A Sheriff's Office report said Sammy Hart and his mother, Shirley Hart, got into a physical fight with Hart's girlfriend inside his home.

The report said the lieutenant and his mother are accused of battery. Deputies didn't arrest either of the two.

According to the report, four deputies responded to a home near DeLand.

The report said a woman, Darcy Williams, got into a heated argument with Shirley Hart.

According to the report, Sammy Hart, who was off-duty at the time, pushed Williams when she asked why he didn't stand up for her.

The report said that Williams left, but returned two hours later and got into a shoving match with Sammy Hart.

The report said Williams was in a bedroom when the Harts entered and Shirley Hart began throwing violent blows with both fists.

According to the report, Sammy Hart, a 20-year employee with the Sheriff's Office, said that the incident wouldn't be good for his job, and left.

Williams asked deputies not to prosecute.

WFTV was told that an internal investigation is under way at Sheriff's Office, but a spokesman wouldn't confirm that Sammy Hart is under investigation. The Sheriff's Office wouldn't comment on the case.
