LAKELAND, Fla. - A 10-year-old Lakeland boy is being honored as Citizen of the Year for donating his bicycle to the police department's "Cops For Kids" program.
Two days later, police officers stopped by to pick up the bike. They gave William a commemorative coin for his donation. His dad, Tim Boyette, thought that was that. But in March, William received an invitation from police to attend an awards ceremony in April.
Police say William "demonstrated vision, leadership and citizenship" with his "selfless contribution" to the program.
