Lightning strike briefly knocks out power to AT&T customers in Volusia, Flagler counties

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A lightning strike Thursday morning in Daytona Beach affected 911 service for some cellphone users in Volusia and Flagler counties, investigators said.

The lightning strike, was reported in the area of Tiger Bay Road in Daytona Beach, temporarily knocked out 911 service for AT&T users in the area, Sheriff's Office spokesman Gary Davidson said.

"Some AT&T Mobility customers in the immediate vicinity of the lightning strikes are unable to call 911 from their cellphones," Davidson said. "Other carriers also may have been affected."

Davidson said the Sheriff's Office's communications center worked with AT&T to resolve the issue and all service has been restored.

AT&T users in Flagler County didn't have 911 service for about two hours, deputies said.

A spokesperson for Orange and Seminole Counties said there are no issues with AT&T.
