Local school principal arrested on DUI charges following crash

OCALA, Fla. — A Catholic school principal in Leesburg is facing charges following a DUI arrest in Marion

Investigators said Mary Staley, the principal at St. Paul's Catholic School, pulled into traffic Sunday and hit another car on State Road 40 and Seventh Avenue in Ocala.

When deputies arrived, they arrested Staley on DUI charges and booked her into the Marion County Jail.

Authorities said the other driver was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries though the victim's name and condition have not been released.

Channel 9 has reached out to the school for comment but has not heard back.

Channel 9 learned Staley has more than two decades of educational experience and joined St. Paul's Catholic School two years ago.

Shortly after she was hired, Staley said she hoped to be "a compassionate, enthusiastic, enthusiastic, intelligent leader who will make a positive contribution."
