Maitland gas station robbed at gun point, police say

MAITLAND, Fla. — Maitland police are looking for a man who robbed a Shell gas station at gun point Sunday morning, shooting at a store clerk.

Shattered glass covered the ground outside the gas station at 500 South Orlando Avenue around 10:30 a.m. when the man robbed the store, police said.

Police said he entered the convenience store, stole cash and then ran out firing a shot at the clerk that missed and hit the front door, shattering the glass.

Eduardo Veres, who lives nearby, recently moved to Maitland from MetroWest to get away from the violence in his old neighborhood.

“I live just a few blocks away,” he said. “I moved here because it is safer here and it is closer to my office, so this is not good news.”

Police said the thief took off in a car that was waiting for him outside the store.

Investigators said they’re reviewing surveillance video which they hope will provide a better description of the gunman and getaway car.
