Man accused of leaving country after fatal 2003 cash takes plea deal

A plea deal is now on the table for a man accused of hitting and killing a man 13 years ago on State Road 417.

Casey Price was arrested in August 2003 after Florida Highway Patrol troopers said he crashed his car into three people who were working in a construction zone on State Road 417 near University Boulevard.

Troopers said Price was drunk when he slammed into Grady Hill, Paul Kimbro and Charles Starrett.

Hill was killed, and the other two men were injured.

Price was charged with vehicular homicide, but he fled the country after bonding out of jail, investigators said.

He was gone for more than a decade, until last year a Facebook tip led authorities to the Caribbean.

The U.S. Marshal’s Service arrested Price, and he has been held in the Orange County Jail for almost a year.

A plea means he will not face a jury, but could face a decade behind bars.

“It was never about the time he got. It was more about taking responsibility,” said Hill’s sister, Peggy Jandrew. “It closes this chapter and gives me and my family, and Grady’s children the opportunity to put an end to this and move on,” said Jandrew.

The plea hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Jandrew and other victims will be in court to read impact statements.
