Man accused of stabbing pit bull during dog fight

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A Gainesville man is accused of stabbing a pit bull that got into a fight with his dog during an early morning walk.

The Gainesville Sun reports Daniel Brummett was walking his dog named Mama early Wednesday when they passed Brandon Smith, who was walking his dog.

A police report says Mama attacked the other dog and wouldn't let go. Smith told police that as he tried to pull the dogs apart, Brummett pulled out a pocket knife and starting swinging it toward him before repeatedly stabbing Smith's dog.

Police say Brummett chased after Smith and a man who stopped to help. Brummett picked up his dog and left.

Smith's dog was euthanized due to its injuries.

Brummett faces multiple charges and remains in jail on $25,000 bail.
