Ashurmamad Miraliev
ORLANDO, Fla. —

Eyewitness News learned a friend of Ibragim Todashev, the Chechen man shot and killed by the FBI in Orlando, was arrested this week.

Ashurmamad Miraliev, 20, of Tajikistan, was booked into the Orange County Jail on Wednesday, then transferred to Osceola County, where he’s facing witness tampering charges.

He is being held on a federal detainer, meaning a federal agency has the ultimate say over his release, according to jail officials.

Miraliev is accused of tampering with a witness in a battery case involving Todashev.  It happened in Osceola County on an unspecified date.

Before his arrest, court papers say the FBI conducted an interview with Miraliev.

Authorities have arrested a friend of the Chechen man shot to death in his Orlando apartment by an FBI agent during questioning about a Boston Marathon bombing suspect.

Miraliev was living in the same Orlando apartment where his friend, Ibragim Todashev was fatally shot last May.

Todashev was killed while FBI agents and others questioned him about his friendship with suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Officials originally said the Chechen man lunged at an agent with a knife. They later said it was no longer clear what happened.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain says Miraliev's arrest is unrelated to the Boston bombing probe or the FBI.
