Man catches 18-foot Burmese python in Miami

MIAMI — A man's close call with a Burmese python landed him the title of capturing the longest one ever in Florida.

The 128-pound snake nearly spans the length of three people, and measures more than 18-feet-long.

The Florida Wildlife Commission said the man in Miami-Dade saw it sticking out of a bush alongside the road and tried to capture the snake. He then killed it with a knife when it wrapped around his leg.

The previous record length for a Burmese python captured in Florida was a little more than 17 feet, officials said.
